What is Alternative Provision?

‘When a child or young person is unable to access mainstream school for reasons including school

exclusion, behavioural issues or illness, education outside of school will be arranged. This education

is called Alternative Provision’

Our Provision

Our aim at ICE, Inclusive Curriculum Education is to deliver high quality education alongside meaningful and effective interventions.

We will provide the highest quality alternative provision, offering both value for money for schools and the best possible outcomes for young people.

Safeguarding is our top priority at ICE, and we feel that communication with the host school is paramount to this. For this reason, schools will be kept fully informed with a daily attendance report and a weekly pastoral report detailing participation and progress.

We take referrals for young people who are at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion from their mainstream school on our 5-10 day course. For young people that need more intensive intervention we offer either a 6 week or a 10 week course.

ICE also offers a service to provide tutors on an Outreach basis for school refusers. We provide a bespoke package with the aim of helping young people successfully transition back into school.

Services

Exclusion Prevention

Our Exclusion Prevention Programme is available for young people from 5-10 days. This programme is a short-term reflective intervention to give students the opportunity to work on a specific incident or behaviour, so they can return to their mainstream setting better prepared for learning having reflected on their actions. Each young person will receive bespoke interventions based upon the school referral form and further conversation with school staff, parents and the young person prior to starting with us.

Behaviour for Learning

Our Behaviour for Learning Programme runs over two durations, a 6 week course and a 10 week course. This best suits learners who have had multiple issues in school and need an extended period out of their mainstream setting to reflect and re-programme their thinking to avoid permanent exclusion. Young people will work with our staff on their mainstream curriculum, whilst working on personal development and reflection, unpicking their behaviours, identifying trigger points and learning strategies to cope in the classroom and school environment. This programme includes behaviour workshops and offers a weekly theme for students to work on including, Building Resilience, Anger Management, Growth Mindset, Body Image, Managing Anxiety, Mindfulness, Recognising Triggers, Self Confidence and Life Skills.

Outreach / Offsite Provision

Designed for those young people that may need more bespoke 1-1 sessions we offer an offsite tutoring service. As we are aware some young people can find it difficult to be open and honest during intervention sessions in the company of their peers. We have a number of venues available to utilise for these sessions. We can also accommodate school refusers by working with them at home initially, as long as another adult is present, with a view to then getting them working at a venue away from home and finally, returning to school.
